"please leave by 8", a co-curated art exhibition
In May 2018, Mary Weigel curated her first art show alongside fellow visual artist Vaughn Pierce titled "Please leave by 8" at the Badger Art Gallery, located on Yosemite High School's campus. The show featured pieces from many student artists in the local area, particularly those students in the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement art programs at YHS. Artist and mentor Evan Higgins was instrumental to the exhibition, directing both Mary and Vaughn through gathering work, installing, and premiering the show.
PERMANENT INSTALLATIONS
Yosemite high school's first mural
As part of a collaborative project with two other artists, Mary Weigel painted Yosemite High School's first ever mural.
The piece depicts Yosemite Valley at sunset from a perched bird's-eye view and is currently on display at Yosemite High School in Ansel Adams Hall. The mural is 5ft x 7.38ft, painted on wood with exterior paint and took about 50 hours to complete.
The piece can be viewed any time that the campus is open to the public.
This project was graciously funded by the Sierra Art Trails Council in a $500 grant gifted at their September 2017 Sierra Art Trails Kick-Off event.
